INNOVATE -Enterprise summer course for Kent Uni students

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

INNOVATE – 10th-14th January- with Luke Aikman – Now taking bookings – open to all students studying at the University of Kent with an interest in developing their enterprise and employability skills

The week is intensive and fun! You’ll arrive on Monday and be thrown straight into the thick of it, learning to understand and manipulate yourself into becoming a creative mastermind, a fountain of business ideas. You will then filter your ideas, form business teams and work up your favourite idea, be it yours or a team-mate’s.

By Thursday, you will have a fully developed business idea, a team that understands their strengths and weaknesses, a brand, an understanding of your market and competitors, a marketing plan, launch strategy, grasp of the finances and a pitch.

On Friday, you will pitch, as a team, to a set of Dragons. They will question you, evaluate your business, and ultimately choose a winner!

The week is free and open to all Kent students. More information or  If you would like to attend

Have UFloged it?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

As promised, we will populate this blog every Friday with a range of interviews from people who have decided to go beyond their lectures and Kent Round One events and test their skills by starting their very own business.

Our first interview concerns a business who’s ads you might have seen floating around on a side of your facebook page or sitting on a table around the library. The name of the business is uFlog and its purpose is to create an online exchange space where students from UoK and Christ Church can post ads about any belonging they might wish to sell. The founder of this enterprise is a postgraduate student here at Kent by the name of Piperis Filippaios. He is very excited about his idea and hopes that at some point in the future it could be expanded to other universities.

Hello world!!!

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Allow us to introduce ourselves, our blog, and what we’ll be talking about in it. First and foremost, we are Polina and Alexandra. We are the new Marketing Assistants/Ambassadors for Kent Round One – the UoK student enterprise centre that provides you with all the great opportunities to help you get the most from your time at Kent.

We are both second year students at the University of Kent, working towards a BBA in Business Administration. After being involved in a variety of events, competitions, challenges, summer placements, business enterprises, charities and societies we have decided that it is a great time to start sharing all our knowledge and experience gained so far with YOU.

Our initial plans are to keep a schedule that keeps you informed about all the enterprise events happening at Kent and beyond and raise awareness about the new, emerging student businesses:

  • Monday’s focus will be the “Business Monday”. A weekly post which will keep you aware of the news and events  planned for that week, followed by a rap-up of the past events and their outcome.
  • Friday will be a grab bag. Some things, some interviews with local movers and shakers, some features on things that we have done or seen, or some event focused posts where we talk about a networking event, conference or something of that sort.

So, we hope that you will read. We hope that you will comment. We hope that you will send us some of your ideas about your business hopes and dreams, likes and dislikes and things that you think should be featured in this blog.  And also, while you’re at it, please take the time to read our fellow blogger: Andrew Davison.

We’ll be talking to you soon,

Alexandra and Polina
