Free residential business start-up course 20-24 June

Apply now to get a place on the Kent Foundation residential Business Start up Course.

A week-long fun and inspiring residential programm
Participants explore the concepts of starting new businesses or developing fledgling businesses.
When?           Monday 20^th – Friday 24^th June 2011.
Where?         Based in the heart of Kent at Palace Farm an eco-friendly, Green tourism site.
Who?             Student aged 17-25 from Kent and The University of Kent who are interested in establishing business roots in Kent.

Course Outline
Day One	Getting started – RU READY to do Business in Kent?
Day Two	Marketing 4 Real & Visits to local businesses
Day Three	Business Planning – In the Boardroom
Day Four	An Enterprising Journey – 24 hour team challenge
Day Five	GO – Final Presentations

Last year’s participants described the course as “life-changing”and several have already started their own business

Work for Rachel Elnaugh for 2 Days in May

TSBC Entrepreneurs Network

Our Non-Executive Director, and ex-Dragon’s Den TV Star, Rachel Elnaugh is looking for an apprentice to work alongside her at the Business Startup Show being held at The Excel this year. Rachel is looking for an enterprising, outgoing, hard working and inspirational person who is good at engaging with people. If you are successful, you will get paid £50 per day (£100 in total) and will get to accompany Rachel to the after show party (if you are over 18) and if you are under 18, there will be other incentives. Your travel will be covered by Rachel for both days, and you will also have the opportunity to talk about your entrepreneurial experiences with The Small Business Consultancy. Are free all day 8am – 6.30pm on 19th and 20th May
Aged 16+
Preferably own a black suit (or equivalent for girls/ladies) – if you don’t our partners A Suit That Fits may be able to kit you out for the day.

Kent Team in Top Three at Princes Trust Awards

The University of Kent Team for the Princes Trust Million £ Makers, attended the regional finals at the Century Club in Shaftesbury Avenue on the evening of Monday 28^th February. The University of Kent were in the top three University teams in the region competing against 17 other Universities. The awards were handed out by the recent Apprentice show participant – Laura Moore.

The team (Dan Medlen, Deep Nagda, James Kent and Robert Finnerty- all first year Accountancy students at Kent Business School) chatted with Laura, who had briefly studied at the University of Kent. As well as the University awards, there were many corporate teams at the event, and a great night for networking opportunities.

Over £750,000 has been raised this year from Million £Makers for the Princes Trust.

The University of Kent team were awarded their certificates – and are keen to pull a larger team together to compete next year!

Want to learn how to read body language and find out what you are communicating to those around you?

Mike Carter is a body Language consultant who has worked for over 30 years as a writer, teacher, theatre director and consultant. Mike brings a refreshingly practical approach to his Body Language workshops. His sessions concentrate on understanding and adapting our own body language so that it is always appropriate and never misleading. He also gives clear and specific advice on how to interpret the body language of others.

INNOVATE -Enterprise summer course for Kent Uni students

INNOVATE – 10th-14th January- with Luke Aikman – Now taking bookings – open to all students studying at the University of Kent with an interest in developing their enterprise and employability skills

The week is intensive and fun! You’ll arrive on Monday and be thrown straight into the thick of it, learning to understand and manipulate yourself into becoming a creative mastermind, a fountain of business ideas. You will then filter your ideas, form business teams and work up your favourite idea, be it yours or a team-mate’s.

By Thursday, you will have a fully developed business idea, a team that understands their strengths and weaknesses, a brand, an understanding of your market and competitors, a marketing plan, launch strategy, grasp of the finances and a pitch.

On Friday, you will pitch, as a team, to a set of Dragons. They will question you, evaluate your business, and ultimately choose a winner!

FLUX 500 is the annual inter-university competition that bridges the gap between education and the world of work. Now in its 5th year, over 30,000 students have taken part from more than 100 universities throughout the UK.
