Toastmasters at UoK

Shape your words and your future – master the key skills employers want.

The University of Kent Toastmasters Club – Cathedral View -  is a friendly and supportive way to practice and hone your leadership and communication skills. The club is designed to help you:

·     Gain the confidence you need to express yourself

·     Be more effective and persuasive when delivering presentations

·     Develop keen listening skills and give constructive feedback

Every Wednesday 4.00pm – 5.00 at The Bulb, Canterbury Innovation Centre.  www.cathedralviewtm.co.uk/

The University of Kent Toastmasters Club meets weekly for about an hour. Each meeting allows everyone an opportunity to practice:

  • Giving impromptu speeches- present a 1-2 minute off the cuff speech around the table with assigned Table Topics.
  • Presenting prepared speeches- deliver a speech based on topics such as speech organization, voice, language, gestures and persuasion.
  • Offering constructive evaluation- feedback the strengths of a speech and offer suggestions for improvement.

No one is forced to speak within meetings and only do so when comfortable.

As a member you will receive a variety of resources on speaking. Toastmasters International Educational Program provides a structured way to monitor your achievements. After presenting the first 10 speeches, you are recognized as a Competent Communicator; from here you can progress along the leadership and communication program.
