Leanne Columbine and Daniel Lane, both first years studying Information Technology at the Medway campus, raised an amazing£138.20 – of which £108 is being donated to UNICEF.

Leanne and Dan ran a raffle, using Facebook, friends and arranging and manning a raffle table in the Pilkington Building at the Medway campus for a day to sell tickets.

Runner up was Georgios Sarris, a second year student studying multimedia design and technology, who raised £70.97 by buying items cheaply online and selling for a profit. Georgios might now continue with his idea and continue to grow his fledgling business.

In third place were Jessica Parker, Kirk Lawrence and Maria-Niki Monastiriotis, another team of first year students, studying English and American Literature, Law and Business Studies, who made a £44.50 profit, selling glow sticks initially outside the venue and then Jamaican dumplings, under the guidance of a colleague with a food health and safety certificate.

Steve Warnham and Taryn Duhig, both second years, studying History and Psychology, had a creative venture designing and ordering badges that promoted certain aspects of life at UoK, and made a profit of £30. As we all know the weather was not great, and selling opportunities not as good as they may have been, but Steve and Taryn had so much interest in their designs that they may also continue their business venture.

Arjald Gordani, a second year business student, raised £23.66 by selling masks at the Heroes and Villains night at the Venue, buying two from a store, but then very creatively making his own masks to sell as well.

Bridget Namayanja, in her first year at Medway studying Health and Social Care Practice raised £20 profit form a raffle, and Uwomano Woma Enenajor & Keji Shekete, both in their third years studying Business Information at Medway, also raised £20 from buying and selling punk badges.

Congratulations to Leanne and Daniel and very well done to all who took part and experienced enterprise at first hand!

You don’t have to make a fortune to win an award – and the challenge certificate is great way to show your ‘can do’ approach to any future employer.
