The core of the network is students studying KBS undergraduate modules CB612, New enterprise start-up, and CB613 Enterprise which have around 150 students, from a number of different faculties.

We are also inviting local businesses whose interest may be in internship placements with our students.

Business support services will also be well represented, from whom our students can seek advice.

Kent Students come second in the Global Student Business Concept Challenge

The First Annual VT KnowledgeWorks Global Student Business Concept Challenge held on August 29 – September 4, 2010, provided a unique opportunity for student teams from all over the world to compete for the $25,000 grand prize and the VT KnowledgeWorks Global Challenge Trophy.  Students from England, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Northern Ireland, Uruguay, and the USA took advantage of this unique opportunity to initiate personal global networks through learning, socialization, and friendly competition. 

Top honors went to Colm Connolly and Vincent Murray of team Ecosy representing Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland.  Their winning concept is a wood pellet fueled patio heater that reduces fuel costs, increases mobility, and reduces the environmental impact of patio heaters used for outdoor dining and entertaining. 

Two runner-up teams, T2T of the University of Kent, England and EasyCheck of the Ruppin Academic Center in Emek Hefer, Israel, each received $2,500.   Sinan Assaf and Ben Giambrone of team T2T presented a revolutionary, convenient, and safe method for arranging and paying for taxi rides using a mobile telephone. Enterprising University of Kent students fly the flag for UK in international challenge

Two University of Kent students will next month represent the UK in a ‘Dragon’s Den’s style international challenge designed to highlight the important contribution university students make to the global economy.

Sinan Assaf and Ben Giambrone qualified for the VT KnowledgeWorks Global Student Business Concept Challenge in the USA by winning the University of Kent’s business concept competition in June.The international challenge, organised by Virginia Tech University and VT Knowledgeworks, aims to celebrate the energy and ingenuity of university students. Participants will present their business concept ideas to a panel of judges and the winners of the Virginia event will receive a $25,000 grand prize. (more…)

12 month programmes for graduates – self employment or start a business

Great new business support scheme for recent graduates from Make It Happen (MIH). This is a new national programme to support graduates setting up in business. It’s free to all those accepted onto the programme and is funded by the UK Government and delivered by National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship, HSBC and Business Link.
