Kent Team in Top Three at Princes Trust Awards

The University of Kent Team for the Princes Trust Million £ Makers, attended the regional finals at the Century Club in Shaftesbury Avenue on the evening of Monday 28th February. The University of Kent were in the top three University teams in the region competing against 17 other Universities. The awards were handed out by the recent Apprentice show participant – Laura Moore.

The team (Dan Medlen, Deep Nagda, James Kent and Robert Finnerty- all first year Accountancy students at Kent Business School) chatted with Laura,  who had briefly studied at the University of Kent. As well as the University awards, there were many corporate teams at the event, and a great night for networking opportunities. 

Over £750,000 has been raised this year from Million £Makers for the Princes Trust.

The University of Kent team were awarded their certificates – and are keen to pull a larger team together to compete next year!

National Varsity Pitch Competition -NACUE

The National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs (NACUE) has announced that this year’s National Varsity Pitch Competition is now open for applications from across the country, to find and showcase the UK’s most outstanding student entrepreneurial talent.

Open to both students and graduates, candidates will have the opportunity to pitch in front of a celebrity judging panel, win £10,000 seed funding, a Golden Ticket to the Global Student Entrepreneurship Awards and a host of other prizes to launch their ventures from a national platform.

The National Varsity Pitch Competition celebrates university enterprise, innovation and start-ups on a national level and promotes a healthy spirit of competition amongst the brightest minds in the country. Seven semi-finalists from each of the semi-final categories will be invited to pitch in front of a panel of esteemed judges and an audience of over 250 young entrepreneurs, investors, accomplished entrepreneurs, public figures and members of the national media, as they compete for the National Title. The award categories are: 1.Clean Technology & Green Business
2.Software, Internet & Mobile Technologies
3.Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM)
4.Social Entrepreneurship
5.Leisure, Hospitality and Services
6.CreativeEnterprise
7. TATA Blue Skies Award for Disruptive Innovations

Over the course of the competition, participating students will present a business plan, compete in their industry semi-finals, attend a boot camp, receive mentorship and coaching and attend the finale in May 2011 in London

Wallace needs your contraptions

Win a cracking prize: The winner will get either their contraption or a likeness of themselves recreated in clay, to appear in an animated production from the creators of Wallace & Gromit.

How to enter: You’ll need to invent and build a clever contraption. This could be a labour-saving device, maybe one that wakes up Wallace or moves an object from A to B. Anything goes, as long as it meets the judges’ criteria.
